Yeah, I was thinking of the 'other' Lennon, the one that gets forgotten in recent orgy of the Lennon Nostalgia Industry [tm]. Sure, there were lots of other making really 'out there' music in the late 1960s and early 1970s (Zappa, Stooges, Can, Miles Davis, etc.) but it's hard to think of someone who was so beloved by a popular mass audience who wasn't afraid of playing some really avant garde music. It's been one of my pet interests: pop ('mainstream') musicians who push the boundaries of music. But thanks for the comments.
